Pomegranate and Fennel Digestive Spritzer

I’m always interested in the latest trends in nutrition and food, and as we’re now on the threshold of the New Year I’m very curious to see what new developments we’ll see within the world of health and nutrition in the coming year.

As an healthy food writer and holistic coach I believe it’s essential to me to keep track of the latest happenings in the nutrition world, however at the end of the day, I’ll continue to follow what is right for me and urge people to do the same. If we attempted to follow all the nutrition trends that are out there I’m pretty sure we’d be a bit confused.

I believe in the idea of bioindividuality. We all of us has a unique body and therefore, what works for one person might not be a good fit for another. With the new Year coming up, I am aware of lots of pressure on the internet to adhere to a particular diet, purchase the latest health craze, or go through your juice cleansing. I’m always a proponent of eating local, whole food and organic as as feasible, and filling your plate with fresh vegetables however, I believe it’s the responsibility of each one of each of us to take the right choices for ourselves . We need to be aware of our bodies and determine what is right for us about our eating habits.

That being said, I really hope that one of the health trends that takes by storm is paying more attention to our guts and taking good care of our digestion.

The digestive system is key for breaking foods down and absorbing nutrients. So, if we want to make sure our body is really getting the best nutrition possible, we have to make sure we maintain a happy and healthy digestive system. For example, this might include eating more fermented foods like saurkraut or kimchi, drinking kombucha, or taking probiotics to help maintain healthy bacteria in our guts. I’ve always been a fan of fermented foods and I’ve been doing a lot of fermenting at home the past couple of months and am really excited to share more tutorials with you soon to help you get started with fermenting.

Kombucha is one of my favorite fermented foods.  If you’re new to kombucha, kombucha is a fermented tea that tastes a bit tangy. Kombucha can be found at any health food store and comes in a variety of flavors. I know that a lot of folks are intimidated by kombucha so I wanted to create a fun drink to show that kombucha doesn’t have to be a strange health food store concoction – it can be a beautiful mocktail too!

This spritzer combines kombucha with fresh sliced fennel, mint, and pomegranate seeds. Whether you’re looking for a fun drink to serve at your next gathering or a helpful digestive tonic, this one is one of my favorites. I used GT’s cranberry kombucha in this recipe, but you can use any kombucha flavor or brand you desire.

Are you a big fan of kombucha? If so, what’s your favorite way to enjoy kombucha?
